The story
Saint Peter's was still dressed for Christmas, garlands along the arches and poinsettias banked up the altar steps, when Sierra was carried up to the font in a white lace gown.
The priest worked through the rite in red and gold vestments with a deacon beside him. Most of it was met with real composure, right until the water, and there is a frame a moment later with both hands planted on the rim of the marble font, looking down into it and visibly reconsidering the whole arrangement.
The family stood along the altar rail for the service itself, the sanctuary wide and bright above them. Afterwards everyone came up in front of the altar for the group portrait, clergy included, which is the one that ends up framed.
